While in Spain I stayed in two different hostels. One in Barcelona and one in Madrid.
In Barcelona we stayed at a hostel called AMISTAT BEACH HOSTEL.

The name of the hostel doesn’t lie. There is a relaxing beach located only 7-8 minutes away and they even have beach gear that you can buy or rent. Amistat also included:
I reserved this hostel through http://www.hostelbookers.com and would definitely say it was a HIT!
The only problem we ran into was opening the door to our room. You placed your room key in front of the sensor and when the light turned green you needed to open the door slower than you would normally anticipate. Besides this small frustration, the hostel was clean, had great décor and who wouldn’t love to be only a few blocks away from the beach?
In Madrid we stayed at a hostel that my friend found online called HOSTEL ERA.
- Friendly front desk staff – available 24/7
- Washing machines
- A large dining room and kitchen area
- Free breakfast in the mornings
- A computer and lounge area with a flat screen t.v.
- Printer service
- Lockers in the rooms – open and lock using the sensor on your room key
- Outlets by each of the beds
- A blow drier in the shower area

This was definitely the smallest of the three hostels I have stayed at so far and I rate this one a MISS.
The only thing I actually appreciated at this hostel involved the showers.
However, the bathrooms weren't very clean, there were only three toilets and it was generally quite stuffy in the common room area. The location of the outlets in the room were also very inconvenient and the lockers in the rooms were very flimsy.
Despite all these faults, the front desk staff was very friendly and it was a place to come home and sleep. However, I personally would not want to stay at this hostel again.

- The towels they had for rent worked great and were nice and big. I was dry within seconds.
- They had a blow dryer that you just had to ask the front desk to use – no charge!
- The area for the showers had about five shower stalls and you could close/lock the door to the shower area. There were hooks on the walls to hang your towel and clothes as well as a shower caddy inside the showers to put your toiletries.
