Happy October!
I can't believe I only have 3 more months studying abroad here in Viterbo, Italy! Where does the time go?!
I have learned quite a bit during my first month here including how difficult it can be to connect with family/friends/roommates due to not having wi-fi in our apartment, to spotty connection when FaceTiming/calling and having to search for wi-fi when most cafes close at 9 p.m. and shut the wi-fi off.
I keep in touch with family and friends via Facebook and e-mail, but also through two Apps that I've downloaded onto my Iphone 5C: Viber and WhatsApp!
These apps are great because they allow you to text, send photos and leave voice messages which are similar to texts but the receiver can listen to the message you send and actually hear your voice. (Essentially it's like a short voicemail which they can listen to when they receive it!)
I also recently discovered that when you place a call on Viber you have the option of switching it to a Video Call. I love this feature because my parents have Androids, therefore I am unable to FaceTime them, so this is how I am able to see their faces when we talk.
As great as these Apps are there's one mistake that I've noticed some make when studying abroad...they try to download the app while here in Europe.
DOWNLOAD THESE APPS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE U.S.!!!
One of my roommates didn't have the Viber app downloaded when she arrived here in Viterbo and when she tried to download it there was an error and it wouldn't allow her to add it to her phone.
These apps are great and I encourage anyone studying abroad to download them before they leave for their adventure!
My personal favorite of the two is Viber, but I downloaded WhatsApp since some of my good friends already had that app downloaded.
